Grades, Absences, and Missing Work

Grading Policy

All major assignments will be sent home with the learning objectives and rubric attached. It is always good to go over learning objectives with students at home and discuss with them ways they can work hard to achieve those goals. On assignments and tests, as well as the end of term report card, students will be scored on individual learning objectives that are correlated with the Common Core Standards. On the progress report and report card, these scores are averaged for an overall score in the subject.

Missing Work
Third grade is the perfect time for students to pick up good study habits and learn to be responsible for completing and turning in their assignments on time. Students who are missing homework or assignments may be asked to do it during a break or miss out on other opportunities in order to make up their work. Any outstanding missing work will be written down in the planner or I will contact parents via email. Students who are having trouble getting their work completed will need to conference with their parents and teachers and will be expected to continue to work until all their assignments are in.

Absences
School attendance is very important to academic and social growth. One of Cascade's best qualities is that in-class work is most often hands-on, interactive, and creative. It is difficult, if not impossible, to recreate these learning experiences for students who are absent or late If there is a planned absence from school, please be sure to contact the office and speak to your student about their plan to make-up assignments. Students will have the same number of days to complete the assignment as they were absent and will be held accountable for all missing work. Student who miss field trips will also be given alternate assignments to make up for the important learning they missed.
